The Foot

Well, today is day 2 with the boot, and I don't know if I am going to make it another 5 weeks and 5 days. Pregnancy wasn't as annoying as this thing is. But at least it is black, so it matches everything. :) And for those of you that don't know the story, here goes:
.
Friday, August 7th, our family was staying at my Uncle Paul's house for a few days. We had been at my cousin's cottage in Huron at the beginning of the week, and came back to Wadsworth for the rest of the week. The girls were down in the family room watching a new movie that I found at a yard sale for Maddie. I forget the name of it, but it is some kind of Buzz Lightyear cartoon, and she loves Toy Story. Anyway, I was carrying down a plate for each of them of some strawberries (which are their favorite) and thought that I was on the bottom step, but I wasn't, and I went down. As Don would say "I went down like a $2.00 whore. Gotta love his sense of humor! It hurt pretty bad, and immediately started swelling. So we proped it up and starting putting ice on it.
.
The next morning it was still pretty sore, and I decided that I wanted to go home. It was August 8th, which was the day of my 25th class reunion from Wadsworth High School. Don kept saying that he could prop me up in the corner of the bar, and that we should still go, but I was done. I just wanted to be in my own house. Poor fella, he had to load up the van by himself, which was a lot of crap after being on the road for a week. We then went to Mom and Dad's for lunch and one final visit before heading back to Kentucky. And the great news, they had a pair of crutches! On the drive back home, I sat in the third row of the van, so that I could keep my foot elevated. The girls loved having Mommy sitting behind them, and kept talking to me about the cartoons that we were watching. We made it home in good time and then my poor husband had to unload me and then the rest of the stuff in the van. GOD LOVE HIM! I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful, caring and loving husband.
.
Sunday, I pretty much spent my day on the loveseat icing my foot and passing the time on Don's laptop. The foot didn't really hurt, but was pretty swolen, oh and starting to turn colors. Monday morning Don came in to check on me, as I have been sleeping in Sami's room, and my foot was even more purple. He told me to call the doctor's office and that I needed to get it looked at. I am thinking that it is a waste of time and that I have only sprained it, but I call them anyway and talk to the nurse. She told me to get it x-rayed and phoned me in a prescription to get it done. Within an hour of having the x-rays taken, I found out that I had fractured my foot. Boy, did it pain me to tell Don that "he was right, and I was wrong". Anyway, yesterday I went to see Dr. Pawsat (the foot doctor) and got my walking boot.
.
I have to go back in three weeks to have another x-ray and see if there is any more damage to the foot. After telling him how I fell and how the foot reacted, he is concerned that there might be another break that wouldn't show up on the type of x-ray that they took. So the next time it will be a weight bearing something or other...
.
Well, that is my story and I am sticking to it! It is kind of nice being waited on for a change, but it is also getting old very fast.
.
More updates to follow...

Oh, Maddie!!!!

God love her!!! That is about all I can say right now. I am about ready to start pulling my hair out. Well, I guess not, especially since I just got it done. Anyway, I took the girls upstairs this afternoon for "quiet time". I go into Emma's room, and there are blue crayon squiggles all over her floor. So, I start yelling "who did this?" And they both get a scared look on their face. Emma says it was Maddie, and Maddie just starts backing up towards her room. I ask Maddie "why did you do that? you know that the crayons are for paper!" And she says "well, I thought that it was paper". So, she gets three smacks on the leg, and then I go and get the baby wipes. Then all three of us clean up the floor. Emma too, because she knows better. I asked her "why didn't you tell her to stop?" And Emma replies "well, I did, but she wouldn't". And I said "well then why didn't you come and get Mommy?" and all she could say was "I don't know". Of all of the things that Emma will tattle on, why she didn't tattle on floor coloring, is beyond me.
School can't start soon enough...
